Every appointment starts with the same standard: understand the idea, plan the placement properly, explain what will work on skin and keep the process clean, respectful and easy to follow.

Tattoo & piercing aftercare
Look after the work properly from day one.
Looking after your new tattoo or piercing correctly is essential for clean healing and the best long-term result. If anything worries you, contact the studio, call us on 01423 550112, or seek medical advice promptly if you feel unwell.
Tattoo aftercare
Congratulations on your new tattoo.
The first 24 hours
- Leave your dressing on for the length of time advised by your artist, usually 2-4 hours unless told otherwise.
- Wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
- Gently wash the tattoo using lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap.
- Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not rub.
Moisturising
- We recommend using Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula.
- Apply a very thin layer 2-3 times a day.
- Your tattoo should look lightly moisturised, not greasy.
- Too much cream can slow healing.
During healing, 2-4 weeks
- Wash gently once or twice daily.
- Continue applying a thin layer of Palmer's Cocoa Butter.
- Wear clean, loose clothing where possible.
Please avoid
- Scratching, picking scabs or pulling peeling skin.
- Swimming pools, hot tubs, lakes or the sea.
- Long baths. Showers only while healing.
- Direct sunlight or sunbeds.
- Tight clothing rubbing the tattoo.
- Heavy gym sessions if they cause rubbing or sweating during the first few days.
Normal healing
- Mild redness, slight swelling, tenderness and itching can be normal.
- Flaking or light peeling is normal. Do not pick peeling skin or scabs.
Once healed
- Your tattoo will continue to settle over several weeks.
- Moisturise regularly.
- Always apply high-factor sunscreen, SPF 30-50+, when your tattoo is exposed to sunlight.
Piercing aftercare
Keep it clean, calm and undisturbed.
What can be normal
- A new piercing may bleed a little for the first couple of days if moved, knocked or caught.
- For the first few weeks, expect some redness, swelling, tenderness, puffiness or bruising.
- Clear, white or pale yellow fluid can appear during healing and sometimes after. This is often part of the healing process.
If it bleeds
- Apply sterile gauze or lint-free kitchen roll.
- Hold gentle pressure for a couple of minutes until the blood clots.
Do not touch with unclean hands
- Do not play, twist or fiddle with the piercing using dirty hands.
- Moving the jewellery can rip the piercing channel if dried secretion has hardened around it, delaying healing.
- Try not to sleep on your new piercing.
Things to avoid
- Soap, shampoo, aftershave, perfume, deodorants and tanning products around the piercing.
- Antiseptic preparations such as Savlon cream or spray, TCP, hydrogen peroxide, surgical spirit or tea tree oil.
- Swimming pools for 2 months.
- Heavy gym activity where possible while the piercing is settling.
Salt water / saline solution
- Pour half a pint of boiling water into a large mug or cup, then add a quarter teaspoon of sea salt or rock salt.
- Wait until it has cooled but is still comfortably warm before using. Do not burn yourself.
- The solution should be as salty as tears. Too much salt can irritate the piercing.
- Clean with a new clean cotton bud to remove crust or lymph.
Our hygiene standards
- We use single-use needles, sterile clamps, single-use dressings and high-grade titanium body jewellery.
- We use professional cleaning and sterilising processes, including hospital-grade sterilisation, enzyme soaks and ultrasonic cleaning.
- The hard part is daily aftercare. Please follow the guidance and contact us with any concerns.
When to contact us
Do not sit and worry.
- Increasing redness after the first few days.
- Excessive swelling.
- Thick yellow or green discharge.
- A bad smell.
- Increasing pain, fever or feeling unwell.
These may be signs of infection and should be assessed promptly. Call the studio, message us, come back in, or seek medical advice if symptoms are worsening.

How do I book a tattoo or piercing?

Are consultations free?
Yes. Consultations are always free. They are there to make sure the idea, placement, size and price are clear before you commit.
How much will my tattoo cost?
The minimum tattoo charge is £50. Tattoo work is £80 per hour, or £420 for a full day sitting. Final quotes depend on size, placement, detail, style and time.
Do you do cover-ups?
Yes. Send clear photos of the tattoo you want covered in good light. We will explain what is realistic and whether it needs to be larger, darker or reworked first.
Can I see the design before the appointment?
Designs are prepared around your appointment and discussed before tattooing starts. For larger pieces, the planning stage will be talked through in advance.
What should I do before a tattoo?
Eat properly, stay hydrated, avoid alcohol the day before, wear suitable clothing for the placement and bring photo ID if requested.
Do you offer piercing appointments?
Yes. Piercing appointments and jewellery changes are available. Contact the studio first so we can confirm availability, jewellery and age requirements.
How much are piercings?
Piercings start from £15. Premium jewellery upgrades are available from £12.99 to £35.00.
Will I get aftercare advice?
Yes. We explain aftercare clearly before you leave, and the main tattoo and piercing aftercare guidance is also available on this site.
Do you offer touch-ups?
Healed-work checks and touch-ups are available where needed. Contact the studio with healed photos and we will advise the next step.
